A hitman for the Darbinyan crime family until the Family testified against him in court and sentenced to death by Judge Theresa Howard at the Iron Heights Prison. Kyle was to be executed in a gas chamber when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exlpoded.

Kyle discovered that he could change into toxic cloud of hydrogen cyanide and set out to get his revenge on the Dardinyans for turning against him by killing them at a crime family dinner. Kyle next target was Judge Howard and killed her in the mall elevator while she was shopping for her daughters prom dress.

The next target on Kyles revenge list as the officer that took him in, Detective West. Detective West was at Iron Heights Prison to see Barry's Dad when Kyle started to gas him till The Flash could stop him. The Mist and The Flash battle it out till The Flash was able to suffocate him by using his super speed to keep him in gas form, thereby depriving him of oxygen, until he fell unconscious.

Once he awoke he discovered that he was a prisoner of the particle accelerator-turned-makeshift metahuman prison under S.T.A.R. Labs and furiously tried to get out.

While in the Particle Accelerator Prison extracting blood from Blackout, The Mist was seen in his cell.
