In the Gobi Desert, Mongolia, an alternative version of Loki is captured by the Time Variance Authority after escaping from the battle in 2012 New York with the Tesseract. In the TVA headquarters, he is sent to a room with Ravonna Renslayer accusing him of crimes against the Sacred Timeline. Loki believes the TVA should suspect the Avengers, as they went back in time allowing him to end up in this situation. However, Renslayer refutes this, saying the Avengers' mission was meant to happen; Loki's escape was not. Agent Mobius M. Mobius takes Loki to the Time Theatre where he reviews Loki's past misdeeds and questions Loki's habit of killing and hurting people. Loki claims that his actions serve to "free" his would-be subjects from their own aimless freedom. He steals TVA tech to retrieve the Tesseract, but gives up escaping when he realizes that the TVA's power exceeds his own, which suppresses even the Infinity Stones. Loki returns to the Time Theatre, witnessing a recording of his soon-would be future of his adoptive parents, Frigga and Odin, dying, and his death at the hands of Thanos. He realizes that his cruelty and mischief will not lead to his ascendence, and agrees to work with Mobius to protect the Sacred Timeline from a rogue variant
