The Infinity Gems are six precious stones of cosmic origin that give the possessor mastery over a certain power. Collecting and using all six gems will give the wielder omnipotence.[]

Infinity stones low — Marvel Cinematic Universe Infinity Stones

The Infinity Stones are six immensely powerful objects that held predominance over the different aspects of the universe. Before the universe was created, the Infinity Stones existed as a singular force. It is unclear whether the universe was created by the splitting of this singularity or if the creation of the universe generated the force which split the singularity into six discrete stones. Each of the stones possesses unique capabilities that have been enhanced and altered by various alien civilizations through the millennia.xxxxOnly beings of immense power can wield the stones, such as when the Celestials used the Orb to pass judgement on entire planets. Lesser beings are usually unable to grasp the full power of the stones and are destroyed by them when direct contact is made, such as the illness of Jane Foster when exposed to the Aether, the disappearance of the Red Skull by the Tesseract, and the incineration of Carina by the Orb. Only once in recorded history was the power of all six stones harnessed. This was achieved by six cosmic beings, each with one stone, linking themselves together. The effects were short-lived, as the energy of the stones disintegrated all six beings after a few moments. Despite being referred to as "stones," the Infinity Stones appear in different shapes and states.

INFINITE STONE: SPACE[]

The Tesseract is named for its cube-like appearance, and is capable of providing instant access to any location throughout the universe if used correctly, moving any object anywhere through reality. The unique element that composes the Tesseract has also been used to create advanced weaponry by races like the humans and the Chitauri. This stone played an important role in humanity's development during the dawn of the superhero age, attracting the attention of forces such as Red Skull and Thanos, both of whom sought to use the Tesseract's power for their own sinister intents.

INFINITE STONE: POWER[]

The Orb is the protective housing of an Infinity Stone closely resembling a purple gem. The gem is an

incredible power source, which, when used at full potential, has enough power to obliterate an entire planet. This gem was sought by Thanos, who tasked Ronan the Accuser to acquire it from the dead planet of Morag. Peter Quill acquired the stone instead and was prepared to give it to Taneleer Tivan until its destructive power was unleashed inside of Knowhere. Soon after, Ronan obtained it and harnessed its energy with the intent of destroying all life on Xandar and killing Thanos. Quill and the Guardians of the Galaxy were able to take the stone from Ronan and collectively harness its power to destroy him.

INFINITE STONE: MIND[]

The blue mind gem gives the owner access to all thoughts and dreams. It also gives the user a

wide number of other mentally related abilities including telekinesis. It encompasses the collective consciousness of the universe. In the hands of one unskilled in its use, the gem could unleash your dreams and nightmares uncontrollably within your mind. Worse yet, one oblivious to the dangers can have their inner demons overwhelm them. For a novice user it can add or boost mental power, and augment the mind's abilities. Further knowledge of the gem can allow the user to tap into further power. Where the reality gem alters reality itself, the Mind gem can make you think the world has changed. Mastery would allow the user to access all the minds of the universe, simultaneously.

RUMOR: The Chitauri Scepter could be the mind stone.

INFINITE STONE: SOUL[]

This green gem is the first to be seen in continuity in the Power of Warlock series. It is arguably the most dangerous. Its sentience is the most profound, and it has shown a hunger for souls, a hunger that can possess a novice user. This gem allows the user to steal, manipulate and alter souls, living or dead. Within the gem are collected souls in perpetual limbo. Mastery of the gem would allow the user to control all living life in the universe. The gem also allows the bearer access to an idyllic pocket-universe that is much like heaven.

INFINITE STONE: REALITY[]

The Aether appears as a dark, red, viscous liquid that can float in the air. The Aether acts like a symbiotic force

that is capable of being absorbed into the body of a living host, granting that person immense strength, power, and seemingly unlimited capabilities. Only two people, Jane Foster and Malekith, are known to have been hosts for the Aether at some point in time, but circumstances prevented the full extent of the Aether's potential to be explored; Jane Foster's body was unable to fully adapt to the Aether's power, causing the merging to nearly kill her, while Malekith had full control over the stone's capabilities, but died before he could use it to greater extent.

INFINITE STONE: TIME[]

This orange gem allows the user to be in any period of time. From the beginning to the end of time, any moment is accessible or visible through its power. Those with limited knowledge in the use of the gem can cause those nearby to revert to a physically older or younger state. With enough knowledge, even more can be done, as time and causality can be manipulated with this gem. The user can also use time as a weapon, trapping enemies or entire worlds in unending loops of time. Mastery would allow the user to affect the whole universe with time manipulation, such as slowing down time in one stretch of the cosmos, freezing time in another and looping time in yet another.
